Description

Who are outcome measure’s really for? The client or the service?
- Bethan Baëz-Devine

Overview

This talk outlines the development to date of qualitative art therapy practice research tools: the audio-image recording (AIR) format and an art-based semi-structured interview entitled Reflect Interview. These aim to capture service user views of what changes, and what mechanisms cause change, in the art therapy they have received. The talk hopes to discuss the logistical, and sometimes ethical, components of using outcome measures with young people in a therapeutic relationship. Short films of the clients will be shown that have been created within the service CAMHS fully consented and anonymised to protect their identities.

Bethan is an Art Psychotherapist who predominately works with young people under eighteen both in the UK and overseas.

Within the UK, She has worked in organisations such as the government led initiative 'Sure Start', Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and a range of primary and secondary schools.

Bethan works with a range of clients who have been given diagnoses such as: eating disorders, developmental trauma, abuse, ADHD and ASD.

She is also a consultant for World Wide Education Project (WWEP) a charity that includes developing pilot projects surrounding child protection overseas. Within this she has collaborated on projects in the following areas: Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana and more recently Kakuma refugee camp (Kenya) to design a support group for girls that have experienced gender-based violence.
