Saturday 25 March 11.00-17.30 Workshop - booking required
In 2010 I was lucky enough to perform in a powerful and inspiring performance at the Barbican entitled ‘Trilogy’ by Nick Green, an “intoxicating celebration of women, feminism and the power of nudity” and discovered the completely powerful feeling of connection whilst dancing naked with a large group of women in front of an audience of 1000 people!!! Since then I’ve dreamed of creating events of my own that produce something equally powerful and positive.
“Who are you behind the mask” is a workshop of a much smaller scale (for now). Nonetheless equally powerful! It’s a fusion of dance, art therapy, guided meditation, shamanic drumming and rituals and it’s dedicated to all women who want to:
• Reconnect with inner power and the true self
• Explore the relationship with their own nudity in a safe space
• Release emotions through dance
What does it mean to you to be a woman? Do you feel comfortable in your own skin? What is your relationship with your own nudity?
Nowadays, where the intellect is valued the most, we are cut off from our wise bodies. We often treat it as an object by adapting it to the canons of fashions and trends imposed by the media. We forgot that our body is a great teacher. If you listen to it, it will show you the way to your creative source, you just need to connect to your breath and follow feelings and sensations arising during this practice and allow the music to guide you.
This workshop will help you to discover and celebrate your true self hidden behind the mask. We will express our unique beauty and wisdom and get rid of the inner and outer layers in this intimate, powerful and ecstatic dance.
What to expect from this workshop?
We will ease ourselves into the day by sharing our feelings, doubts, expectations; explore our feelings about authenticity, limitations, body awareness, nudity. There will be: mask making – mask that represents our false self, guided meditation, movement meditation inspired by 5 rhythms practice and some shamanic rituals. We will then gradually get rid of layers of limitations which are represented by each item of clothing and burn the mask of our false self in the fire (open fire place) liberating ourselves from fears, shame and inhibitions. Fully or partially ( whatever feels comfortable) naked we will dance and celebrate our beautiful and unique bodies, authenticity and spontaneity. The dance is intuitive – there are no rules or steps to follow. It can be gentle, slow, fast, mad or ecstatic. All emotions are welcomed. Places are limited and advance booking is required.
