Event description
Fellow Interintellect Gena Gorlin explores who should go to therapy and when - and the remediation vs growth models of psychological change

About this Event

"It is an open secret that the field of psychotherapy is stuck in an identity crisis: there are raging debates over whether it is a form of medicine, education, or coaching - whether it is more of a science, an art, or some mix of the two, what metrics should be used for determining whether a given therapy “works”, or how standardized these metrics should even be.

At this InterIntellect Salon, we will discuss a question at the nexus of these debates, and of interest to any potential consumer: who is therapy’s target audience?

Is therapy only for those with a psychiatric diagnosis, or is it for anyone who wants to become a better version of themselves? For that matter, how meaningfully different are these two groups of people, and how different are their therapeutic needs?

We will explore and exchange perspectives on these questions, bringing both scientific knowledge and individual human experience to bear." - Salon host Gena Gorlin
