About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

From relatively humble beginnings in rural Leicestershire to becoming one of the country's richest men, Sir John Moore survived the Black Death, the Great Fire of London, and the most turbulent times the British monarchy has ever seen. Eventually becoming the Lord Mayor of London, Sir John Moore used part of his vast wealth to create a new school in Appleby Magna. But how did he create that wealth? And what does it mean for us?

In this illustrated talk, Museum Manager Sally Lowe gives an insight in to his life, the times he lived in, and the legacy he left.

This event is suitable for all ages.

There will be drinks available from the Cellar Bar, which you are welcome to bring with you.
