Event description

Description

AA Architecture, a Manchester based practice and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), invites you to a lunchtime event aimed at promoting equality and diversity in the architecture profession. Discussions will also cover the increasing mental health problems among architecture students. The event is hosted by BDP Architects and Engineers.

Last year’s event with Ben Derbyshire as keynote speaker was a huge success judged from vibrant Q&A sessions during and at the end of the event as well as feedback. This year’s event promises more and is targeted at BAME school and college students as well as university architecture students.

Statistics indicate that BAME group is poorly represented in UK architecture. We aim to show that our profession is relevant, interesting, accessible and welcoming to creative young people from all cultures and backgrounds.

Statistics also show the increasing levels of mental health issues; from studies and outcome of last year’s event, BAME architecture students tend to be more vulnerable. We aim to create practical understanding of the issue from the students and put together practical information which will prove valuable for policy formulation by architecture/government institutions.

We would be delighted if you would join us at 12:30pm to 2:30pm on the 27th of June at BDP Manchester Office (2nd Largest Architectural Practice) 11 Ducie St, Manchester M1 2JB

This is also a networking opportunity for attendees which will also feature Q&A session where students can speak their mind on the issue.

SPEAKERS / Q&A RESPONDERS:

Elsie Owusu OBE RIBA - RIBA Presidential Candidate/National Councillor RIBA Role Model (Keynote Speaker)
