WHY AREN'T ORGANISATIONS SHIFTING?
Event Information
Description
An Open Space event, London 21 July
Why aren't Organisations shifting?
For all the talk of a deep shift required in our organisations, why is very little actually transforming?
Yes, small changes are happening on the surface, tweaks here and there, but in the context of our environmental, societal and economic crisis, why aren’t the more fundamental changes happening?
What is blocking transformation? What do we need to do to make organisational shift happen?
The management revolution is nowhere
If you were to believe the many management books, articles, blogs, talks and tweets, you’d think there is a management revolution under way. But for a few exceptions here and there, nothing appears further from the truth. Yes there are more reorganisations, but fundamentally most organisations still operate under a framework of departmentalised silos serving the top.
Or is this description just an untrue cynical portrayal of things? Maybe it is just our expectations which are too high. “We need to continue to persevere in our radical work; experimenting with how we can work and live together to evoke human creativity and caring. Only time will tell if our efforts contribute to a better future. We can’t know this, and we can’t base our work or find our motivation from expecting to change this world.” (Margaret Wheatley, So Far from Home)
If these are questions you or your organisation are grappling with, then come and explore the issues with others also concerned about the similar issues on 21 July 2015.

How should we enable Shift?
Everywhere you go you find people talking of change, a big shift or transformation about to happen, or needing to happen. There is no shortage of ideas, groups or energy. Why then is it that very little is actually changing?
What can we do about it? Indeed, should we be doing something? We may shift, a shift to a horizontal way of running our organisations and a horizontal shift to break our patterns of thought.
If you are passionate about shift, are disappointed that progress is slow, would like to meet other organisations advocating transformation or would like to have deep dialogue about making organisational shift stick, then join us at this SHIFT event.
How will this event be run?:
This event will take place in an participant-led Open Space format, so this is entirely run by YOU. There are NO speakers, there is just you and the other participants, all passionate about shift, and the heart-felt issues you all bring to the event. The event will be an opportunity to listen and respond to others’ issues, exploring the central question why is it that shift isn’t happening. This is your event.
No-one knows what will emerge from this event – but be prepared to be surprised! Maybe we’ll end up with a joint action plan, or simply an idea of further issues that need addressing. There’ll be many short sessions during the event, only some of which you physically be able to attend, but each session will produce a report, the proceedings, so you’ll be able to read what others have said and done.
This is an opportunity for change-makers from all walks of life to meet and share stories and explore potential collective impact, this is a cross-disciplinary gathering. Come and experience the transformative nature of Open Space.
