Event description

Description

This talk looks at the key biological, psychological and social factors that can make weight loss diets difficult to stick to. It looks at why it's important not to give your body the message that it's starving when you're trying to lose weight, and explores why it's important not to rely on willpower alone. It also explores the disadvantages of focusing purely on weight, and how obsession with weight loss can distract us from addressing underlying eating habits. This talk looks at the ways in which diets can damage our relationship with food and the importance of self-care and the limitations of having a black and white mindset (ie being 'on' or 'off' a diet). We also look at how unhelpful attitudes and beliefs about dieting and eating can get in the way of successful weight management, and how personality can influence our ability to lose weight and control our weight long-term. The talk looks at mindful eating versus dieting, and how mindful eating can help you to ditch diet rules and create your own personalised way of eating that feels good and works for you. Many of us feel restricted by diet rules, and so adopting a more flexible, 'middle-way' approach can help us to become less reliant on diets and escape the yo-yo dieting trap. This talk will help you to identify exactly what dieting behaviours and beliefs have let you down in the past, and what you personally need to focus on to transform your entire approach to eating and weight loss.
