Event description

Description

We're delighted to host Susie Chan and Elise Downing for our This BUCS Girl Can Week at the University of Sussex!

Susie Chan began running a bit later in life to get healthier. Since stumbling over her first finish line at a race in 2010 she has gone on to run thousands of miles in training and in races. Her favourite events are multistage ultras, these are races over multiple days and miles.

Highlights of Susie's races have included two Marathon des Sables (setting off with the elites in 2015), Thames Path 100 and the Boston Marathon.

Susie is also known for doing the odd bit of cycling and swimming too. Susie is her happiest running with friends on the trails.

On November 1 2015, Elise Downing set off to run 5000 miles self-supported around the coast of the UK, carrying her belongings on her back, in a bid to scratch the surface of both the country she calls home and her own capabilities. Over the 301 days that followed, Elise saw Britain at its wild and wonderful best, learned all about tired legs and developed an unquenchable penchant for cake.

She crossed the finish line in August 2016 and is now speaking and writing about her experiences whilst attempting to find a little bit of adventure in every day (and doing just enough exercise to keep up with her cake addiction!)

Join Susie and Elise as they talk about their running experiences, including overcoming the difficult times, how to prepare for races/training and the confidence that running has given them.
