Why Political Economy and Institutional Studies? - Launch Event For CPEIS
Thu 15 June 2017, 14:00 – 19:00 BST
Join us for the launch of the Centre for Political Economy and Institutional Studies (CPEIS) at Birkbeck, University of London.
Birkbeck's new Centre for Political Economy and Institutional Studies (CPEIS) is an interdisciplinary research hub that brings together faculty from across the College's Schools and Departments, including Economics, Mathematics and Statistics, Management, Law, and Politics. The Centre's mission is to enhance, promote, disseminate and further debate on key themes in political economy and institutional studies, encouraging consideration of the relationships that cut across such issues as austerity and insecurity, social capital and trust, defence economics, economic governance, regulation and law, institutional accountability, informal institutions, corruption and crime, and law enforcement and punishment. The establishment of the CPEIS reflects the need for greater appreciation of the complex interlinkages that bind socio-political and economic contexts, processes and outcomes, a need that has become ever more apparent in the face of the evolving insecurities and conflicts of the contemporary era.
To mark the Centre's launch, leading scholars from universities across the UK will offer their view of the ambitions, contributions and challenges of political economy research within their disciplines. The event will be a unique opportunity for reflection on the scope and value of scholarship which draws attention to the enduring significance of political economy and institutions.
