Event description

Description

Why do words matter? How do words shape our opinions? How can words create conversation or close down debate?

If you're the kind of person who cares about their community and you want to learn how to make a difference, then knowing how to speak as well as how to listen is crucial. Words Matter.

The speaker? What can you say? She’s Italian, she’s charming and she’s very insightful.

Elena Semino is Professor of Linguistics at the University of Lancaster, she specialises in the way that metaphors shape thought and dialogue. If we are to talk about the future of healthcare; what words should we use, what images give us meaning, hope or challenge us? Do we need a new language for healthcare? Words Matter!

Elena will help us explore the power of words and metaphors and how these can be used to build healthy debate for healthy communities.
