Description

Backstage Tour and Film at The UK’s Oldest Working Cinema

Tuesday 23rd January 2018 at The Electric Cinema, Station Street, Birmingham

Arrival 5.00 for 5.30pm for the talk and tour followed by the film showing at 6.30pm

WiBA invites you to join members and guests at our first event for 2018.

We will be treated to a welcoming drink from the bar with plenty of opportunities for networking. There will then be a talk about the cinema and a tour before enjoying one of the latest new releases from the comfort of the sofas. There will be the opportunity to purchase snacks and further refreshments during the performance, as there is waiter service.

The Electric Cinema opened in Station Street in 1909, showing its first silent film on 27 December of that year, and is now the oldest working cinema in the country. Over the following years it has experienced a number of changes both in name and purpose (some less respectable than others!), and was refurbished and brought back to its former Art Deco glory in December 2004.

Sam Bishop, Operations Manager and our host for the evening, will tell us more about its history, and reveal some of the cinema’s secrets.

If you would like to attend at the members' rate please ensure you have taken out/renewed your WiBA Membership.
