Event description

Description

Every year, WiBA celebrates the achievements of women of distinction who have broken through boundaries to reach the very top of their chosen careers. This year we are delighted to welcome both Caroline Miller OBE and Jessica Wheeler to be our speakers at a lunch hosted fittingly by the Birmingham Hippodrome.

Caroline Miller was appointed CEO of Birmingham Royal Ballet in December 2018, having taken up the interim CEO position in February last year. Caroline started her career as a box office assistant, moving up through the ranks to marketing manager, publicist and then was appointed to her first leadership role as director of Dance UK (now One Dance UK) before joining Florida Ballet as executive director, prior to joining BRB.

Jessica Wheeler trained as a contemporary dancer and after suffering injury early in her professional career moved into teaching, initially in challenging inner city London schools, working her way up through the leadership scales before being headhunted at the age of 32 to become Principal of Elmhurst Ballet School, the associate school of Birmingham Royal Ballet based in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

In addition to sharing their personal stories of how their own successful careers developed, Caroline and Jessica will be speaking about the importance of the arts to the City of Birmingham. They will talk us through what their linked organisations are doing to ensure that Birmingham continues to develop as a hub for dance and also to ensure that ballet is accessible to children, young people and adults from a diverse range of backgrounds in Birmingham and the wider Midlands area.

Our lunch will be held in the Lloyds Room, a private hospitality space within the Birmingham Hippodrome which neighbours Birmingham Royal Ballet. Join us at 12pm for a welcome drink, followed by a delicious 2 course meal and a glass of wine or soft drink. We will finish at 2.15pm allowing you to return to work. At just £30 for members at £36 for guests, we hope you can join us with your colleagues, clients, and friends or on your own for what promises to be a fascinating speaker lunch in a fabulous City Centre venue.

Due to the size of the Lloyds Room, numbers are limited so we recommend prompt booking to secure your place at WiBA’s Annual Woman of Distinction Lunch.
