T H E V A N T ' S
The Van T’s are the West of Scotland 4-piece comprised of Chloe Van Thompson (vocals, guitar), Hannah Van Thompson (vocals, guitar), Joanne Forbes (bass) and Shaun Hood (drums). Despite their newcomer status, their songs are as revitalised a debut as you could hope for. Rapturous surf-pop with rock swagger balanced by sugar-pop harmonies have won over numerous fans already. With influences ranging from First Aid Kit to Wolf Alice, this quartet are the new smell of teen spirit.
S C U M P U L S E
Scumpulse are a four piece punk infused Black Metal band from Edinburgh, Scotland. The band was formed at the end of 2013 / early 2014 after the death of the Scottish Blackened Crust band, Fifteen Dead. Ross began writing music and Matt the lyrics for what would become Scumpulse. The lineup was completed by Andy and Magnus early '14.
When & Where
Wide Days was launched in 2010 and is Scotland’s only music-business convention. In 2014 it was named Best Networking Event at the Yearly Music Convention Awards and was runner up in the same category in 2015.
Wide Days has attracted key music industry players from the UK, US, Norway, Iceland and the Netherlands, and in 2014 featured a special focus on the German music market. Moreover, the conference was used for the Scottish launch of the Music Venue Trust, as well as the Off Axis gigging network.
Past showcase acts include Be Charlotte, Elle Exxe, Mercury Music Prize-nominee, C Duncan and Kathryn Joseph, who went on to win the Scottish Album of the Year Award. Honeyblood, PAWS and Siobhan Wilson, were all signed as a result of appearing at the event. In 2016 Wide Days became the first industry event to showcase a majority of acts fronted by women.
Parent company, Born To Be Wide, was launched in 2004, as a social evening for people in the Edinburgh music scene and in 2012 was incorporated as a Community Interest Company. It stages music business seminars, showcases and the Off The Record youth events, as well as bespoke panels for other organisations.
