Event description

Description

This dissemination event aims to showcase the key contributions and findings of SHIFT project as well as the recent trend and debates regarding widening access to universities in the EU. To achieve this goal, we are pleased to invite university stakeholders, researchers, practitioners, policy makers to share their ideas and thoughts at the dissemination event on the theme of ‘Widening Access to Universities and SHIFTing the Cost of Education’ to be held at the School of Management, Swansea University, UK on 9th July, 2019.

The EU clearly states that the economic downturn led to a decrease in public funding, while demand for higher education (HE) continues to increase (Eurydice, 2011). As a result, financial burden has increasingly been shifted to students in the EU. Financial inclusion of HE students to fund their education is, therefore, an utmost priority for the EU. Such priority is recognized by Erasmus+ as well as other policy makers across the EU.

Against this background, SHIFT (Strengthen HE through Innovative Financial Tools), a truly European Project funded by the Erasmus+, has the objectives of alleviating the financial burden of access to and participation in HE of students while increasing the efficiency of public spending in HE. SHIFT develops an innovative model of virtuous Public Private Partnership based on a financial instrument and model.
