MORE ABOUT THE FILM.

Chelsea Steinauer-Scudder writes, ‘‘ In addition to listening for the human stories that root our traditions..we must also seek out and tell the stories of the land itself.’’

I am Eliza Lawrence, a storyteller and lover of this wild, rugged coast and have written and directed a poetic narrative film about the Pembrokeshire coast over two summers.

In the ethereal realms of Celtic spirituality, there exists a concept known as "Thin Place" : a sacred space, where the boundaries between our world and the unseen are blurred, beckoning us to explore the depths of our existence. Pembrokeshire, a mystical corner of Wales, has long been whispered to possess such transcendental qualities. I wanted to explore how awakening to the expressive forces of nature could bond the separation between nature and the human dominion of it, especially in the aftermath of Covid, the mental health crisis, and the present doom of climate collapse.

I immersed myself in the wisdom books of naturalists, scientists, and artists who have also explored Pembrokeshire. I traversed the landscape, conducted interviews, observing, and documenting my experiences with photo, video and poetry.

From this exploration emerges – a poetic narrative that weaves together the threads of science, art, and spirituality. Accompanied by footage of Pembrokeshire's most sacred sites (to myself and those around me) , the narrative becomes a testament to the elusive allure of Thin Places.

Thin Place is more than a film – it is a clarion call to action, urging us to safeguard and nurture these sanctuaries with every fibre of our being. For in the embrace of Thin Places, we find not only solace but also the true essence of what it means to be alive in connection with our natural world. It is about transferring from living with uncertainty to instead becoming a hopeful navigator to the mystery of life.

The meaning of these words from conservationist Attenborough;

"No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced,” echo throughout the poem, with the hope the echo carries through the wind to you, wherever you may be, to go out and find your Thin Place.
