Join artist and cultural practitioner Tanatsei  Gambura, Sara Thomas (Scotland Programme Coordinator for Wikimedia UK) and  Fruitmarket staff as we research and edit Wikipedia pages that record the lives of contemporary African American artists. No previous Wikipedia editing experience required, as Sara will teach us the essential skills. 

Wikipedia is the fifth most visited website in the world, a source of free and accessible information, but people of colour are underrepresented in both its content and among its editors. We want to work on addressing the passive and active erasure of the creative work of people of colour.

You will require a laptop or PC (preferable to a tablet or phone), but no previous Wikipedia editing experience is required as Sara will teach us the essential digital editing skills.

This event will be held online, a Zoom link will be sent out in advance. There will be lots of breaks and use of breakout rooms to avoid ‘Zoom-fatigue’.

We ask participants to: 

• Create a Wikipedia account  in advance if you don‘t already have one 
• Do some research in advance 
• Visit our project page
