Wikipedia pt 2 - editing
Event Information
About this Event
Everyone uses Wikipedia to look up information, but how many of us take an active part in making sure the information is accurate? Wikipedia is amongst the world's 15 most visited websites, and is read more than 20 billion times every month. In this session, a trainer from Wikimedia UK will help you get to grips with Wikipedia.
The three sessions, run by Wikimedia, are linked together, and while you will get the most out of them if you attend all three there will be resources available covering the key points if you are unable to make a session or if you want to refresh your memory.
The first session (3 February 2021 )will give an outline of what Wikipedia is and how it works. Together we will be creating accounts to help you edit, and you can ask questions about Wikipedia. In this second session (10 February 2021), the trainer will walk you through how to make an edit, and explain how Wikipedia's principles relate to writing. In between sessions, we hope that you might have time to research your chosen topic and prepare some text. In the third and final session (17 February 2021) we will take our articles live.
Sessions will be run on BlackBoard Collaborate and a link will be sent to you shortly before the event starts.
All sessions have been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, as part of the University of Leicester's "So that they may have life" project.
