Exploring one of my favourite locations, this fun foray should be a lovely afternoon of learning, with the aim of meeting a whole host of wild fungi. We'll hope to be familiarising ourselves with a wide variety of species in a friendly, relaxing environment. The aim will be to look at the key ID features of different families, understanding what to look for so as to become familiar with some of the amazing fungi that shape our landscape. This is primarily an educational foray, so we'll handle, sniff, scratch and squeeze all sorts, treading lightly but still hands on so as to better cement our learning.I'll take you through the basics of mushroom morphology, tree association and ID, tips, tricks and years of experience to help you better understand fungi and hopefully name them, too!
This walk will take us through a range of habitats, some beautiful ancient woodland and up into unimproved grasslands that should present us with a wide variety of fungi to discuss and enjoy.
Weather conditions can obviously mean our total count can vary somewhat, but i've always found plenty to discuss and celebrate. At the end of the foray, we'll lay out our finds and re-cap on the day's discoveries.
Practical Info: The walk will be an easy going pace but contains some moderate inclines, with potential muddy /slippy areas so waterproofs and walking boots would be a good idea. We'll most likely take a short break for a little lunch, so a packed lunch and drink would be recommended.
What to Bring:
- Sturdy footwear (Boots/wellies)
- Waterproofs
- Packed lunch
- Knife, pen and notebook if you wish to take notes
Parking: In the interest of courtesy, please don't use the Hare and Hounds car park itself. Instead, please park in any of the available streets in the nearby vicinity. This may leave you a couple of minutes away, so please allow for that time in order that we can make a prompt start.
Booking and Refunds:
Should you require a refund, you can request one directly with Eventbrite up to 7 days before the event. I'll try my best to re-sell a ticket from a cancellation up to 48 hours before the event, but any later and It's unlikely i'll be able to provide a refund.
I will email closer to the event with additional meeting details, my contact number and any updates.
I look forward to meeting you! (and all the fungi),
Ali
