Event description

Description

10am-5pm

Join artist Stuart Moore at the meeting point of sound, music, bodily rhythms and improvised technology. Combining aspects of sound, digital and performance art, participants will explore how sound creates an emotional connection to a place via listening, conscious and unconscious movement, and technology which immediately responds to kinetic expression.

A vegetarian lunch is included. Please come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for outdoors.

Stuart Moore’s work stems from his belief that sound represents one of the most direct expressions of human feeling we have, and thus the ever-present and involuntary sound-scape that surrounds us forms deep emotional connections. Through extensive use of improvised technology, his his sound installation work explores this link between human feeling, sound and environment. An attempt to take natural sound and make explicit the near-musical experience we are awash in, that colours our perceptions, and yet we are often unconscious of.

Stuart was born in 1968 and lives in Milton Keynes. His background in sound began as a guitar maker, progressed through musician, and eventually involved building a recording studio out of frustration. Stuart has developed a number of unique microphones and digital processes and his studio Pokey Sticks, is a study in untidiness.

Important: As part of a continuing dedication to sustainability (see our Environmental Policy), Fermynwoods has committed to serving only vegetarian food at events and workshops, though participants are welcome to bring their own food if desired. Please state any additional dietary requirements when booking a place on the workshop.

Sound and Vision is a continuation of the Outdoor Institute of Art, a two-year programme conceived by Yasmin Canvin and run by Fermynwoods Contemporary Art. The Outdoor Institute is an alternative art school with discussions, skills and knowledge sharing events between artists, experts in relevant fields, the arts sector and members of the public.
