About this event

About this event

During the holidays, please come along to our Wild Survival Skills sessions at Bartley Mill Farm, near Bells Yew Green, just outside Tunbridge Wells.

*Booking is essential.*

The event is open to children aged 6 - 14 years and will involve learning simple survival skills and safety. You will learn how to light a campfire, how to make a shelter, and about various types of resources found in the woods and how to use them, and simple ID of animal tracks. You will be cooking over the fire and learning safe ways of finding drinking water.

All equipment and tools will be provided, and there will be items to buy at the end of the session, including a flint and steel kit.

Adults, please bring a fold-up chair or rug if you need one for the session. We will be sitting around the campfire on log stumps.

Only 10 children can book and attend so please book early and if plans change, please cancel the booking on Eventbrite so another child can attend.

*Sorry, no dogs allowed on the farm.*

Children must be accompanied by a parent/carer at all times. There must be a ratio of one adult to two children under 12 at all times. No more than one adult per child please. Minimum one adult per 3 children. Adults come free.

As we will be outside, masks aren’t required but you are welcome to wear one if you prefer to.

Please dress appropriately for the weather (we head out whatever the weather) - we suggest wellies or walking boots, waterproof coat or jacket, waterproof trousers if you have them. Remember sun cream even if it is not sunny, as sun can still burn through clouds.

We will be supplying fresh pork sausages for cooking over the campfire, and hot dog buns. No other refreshments and snacks are available on site, so please bring your own. There are compost loos on the farm.

Free parking on the farm at ///silk.grape.privately (What3Words) or TN3 8BH

PLEASE DO NOT BOOK OR ATTEND IF YOU OR A MEMBER OF YOUR BUBBLE/HOUSEHOLD HAVE HAD SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19 WITHIN THE PRECEEDING 7 DAYS.

For more information please contact Matthew on info@bartleymill.com or 07588 963396 if you have any problems booking online.

Organizer Bartley Mill Farm

Organizer of Wild Survival skills

We run woodland and field day activities on the farm, in order to help educate and familiarise people - especially kids - about and with wildlife, biodiversity and farming processes and animals. Our aim is to provide a safe environment where kids can learn about the natural world around them, understand where their food comes from and learn about ecology and the environment in a fun and safe way. We occassionally run "sleeping under the stars" overnight events, and provide tuition in basic survial skills as well as fishing, shooting, foraging and trapping.
