About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Have you ever fancied trying your hand at bushcraft? Why not join Area Warden Paul for an introductory guide to outdoor skills amongst the trees at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve.

To begin, Paul will lead you on a short walk around the reserve, during which you’ll look at different plant species and their uses. With his vast experience working in conservation, he’ll explain the importance of ‘safe’ foraging and share tips about how you can enjoy collecting from nature without having a negative impact on wildlife and their habitats.

You’ll then have the chance to master shelter building, with Paul on hand to advise you on the best techniques for sturdy construction. Once you’ve got a shelter up, we’ll move on to look at fire lighting, practicing the skills you need to make flames without matches.

By the end of the experience, you’ll have a toolkit of new bushcraft skills, perfect for embracing the great outdoors in your day-to-day life.

Please note the Visitor Centre is currently closed for refurbishment, so no refreshments are available to purchase on site. You are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks with you and a bottle of water is recommended.

Our reserves team are used to working outdoors in all weathers, so we aim to go ahead with these experiences wherever possible. On occasion the warden may decide conditions are extreme enough to cancel the planned date, either because they'll be unable to deliver the event to a high enough quality or because it is unsafe to go ahead. If this is the case you will be offered an alternative date or refund. Unfortunately, we cannot refund tickets if the event takes place but you choose not to attend.

Please give us 30 days notice wherever possible if you are no longer able to attend. The small group sizes on these experiences mean cancellations have a large impact on the viability of the event, and it can be difficult to fill places at short notice or after an event has initially reached capacity. Thank you.
