About this event

Are you aged between 11-17? This is a bi-monthly (every other month) group for young people who are interested in the natural world, wanting to gain skills in natural history, help the environment, use their creativity, spend time at one of the UK foremost nature reserves and make new friends!

This month’s Cley Wilder Youth is all about the OCEAN! We will spend the first part of the session helping nature by joining our amazing volunteers on their monthly beach clean, find out what is most frequently washed up on our shores. Let’s protect the species that depend on our beaches! We will then head back through the reserve spotting wildlife and litter picking as we go.

Did you know the sea is a soup of incredible small creatures’ diatoms, plankton and much more! This is what makes the North Sea such a spectacular nutrient rich ocean full of wildlife. We are so lucky to have this on our door step. So, for part two of the session we will be joined by a plankton expert who will show us the amazing hidden creatures found here in the sea at Cley.

THIS SESSION WILL START AT CLEY BEACH CAR PARK AND WILL FINISH AT CLEY MARSHES VISITORS CENTRE. Please bring a packed lunch, some snacks will be provided.

Before you attend your first session, a parental consent and personal risk assessment form, which we will need you to fill out and return to us in readiness for the session. There is no need to complete a consent form again when attending any subsequent events, unless you need to tell us about a change in your circumstances.

The session will be led by our Cley engagement officer, along with support from volunteers and session leaders. Please make sure young people are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for being outside in the cold and the wet. All other equipment will be provided. Please be advised to take caution when walking on a site with open water and ensure that you always remain on the designated paths. Biting insects can be present at certain times of the year and you may choose to apply insect repellent as a precaution.

Further joining details will be sent during the week before the event.

Norfolk Wildlife Trust is the oldest Wildlife Trust in the country. The purchase of 400 acres of marsh at Cley on the north Norfolk coast in 1926 to be held ‘in perpetuity as a bird breeding sanctuary’ provided a blueprint for nature conservation which has now been replicated across the UK. Our vision for Norfolk: where the future of wildlife is protected and enhanced through sympathetic management and people are connected with and inspired by Norfolk’s wildlife and wild spaces.
