Event description

Description

Explore the ruined grounds of a 14th century castle for wild flowers between the rocky terrain. Numerous plants around the castle walls among the purple heather, golden gorse and broom.

Meeting point - Grosnez Car park

Join a small group led by Blue Badge Guide Sue Hardy for a rural ramble, encouraging observation and identification. We shall stop to look at, and talk about common wildflowers, to enable you to become familiar with them, and take your own photographs, to help you recognise and remember various plants. You don't have to be an expert - just interested.

Learn to tell balm-leaved figwort from ivy-leaved toadflax - among many others! Their names are pure poetry, and the folk-lore is fun.

No need for a fancy camera - most 'phones these days produce quality images. An easy-to-follow photographic guide is available to purchase on the day. Different habitats have completely different vegetation: hedgerows, shaded woodland or bright sun, wet meadows, the seashore and dunes, or breezy cliff-tops - each area will determine what you may discover!
