About this event

W hat to expect?

The walk will be led by Charlie Fayers, a local wildlife photographer who has had photos published by Nat Geo, BBC and Mammal Society amongst others. As an owner of A Patch Wilder, Charlie also has an in-depth knowledge of the animals and plants on the Patch and where to find them! You can see some of Charlie's work here

This will be a 2.5 hour workshop starting out in our education centre, discussing the basic principals of photography and camera settings, and how these can be applied to wildlife and nature subjects. In particular, we will look at using late evening light, macro photography, field skills and different perspectives to get that unique shot.

We will then go for a gentle walk through our peaceful 15-acre conservation project looking out for birds, reptiles, butterflies, wildflowers and more to practice our photography techniques.

What will you need?

  • A photographic device (this may be a camera, phone or something else).
  • You may wish to take a notepad and pen.
  • Suitable footwear and outdoor clothing.

Location

The workshop will be held at A Patch Wilder, tucked away up in the Mendip Hills in Somerset. A Patch Wilder is a private conservation project aiming to benefit wildlife and connect people with the environment around them. During the photography workshop you will have exclusive access to the project, allowing you to snap away in peace!

There is car parking available: turn into the Lillypool Café car park and drive through the gate immediately on the right, up the farm track where you will find a parking area.

Additional Information

  • Suitable for beginner and intermediate levels of experience and equipment (phones, point-and-shoots or DSLRs all welcome).
  • The workshop is weather-dependent. A full refund will be issued if we have to cancel.
  • Could we please ask that dogs are left at home.

This event is made possible through funding from the Farming in Protected Landscapes Fund, thanks to the Mendip Hills National Landcsape and Defra.
