Wildlife Wanders at Fort Burgoyne
Join White Cliffs Countryside Partnership for a family friendly guided tour of Fort Burgoyne.
About this event
Event Leader: Lauren 07874 888035
The focus of this walk will be the wildlife which can be found within the Fort but a basic overview of the history of the site will also be provided.
We could be lucky enough to see:
- Ravens or buzzards soaring above the Fort
- Lizards basking in the sunshine on our log piles
- Slow worms sheltering under refugia
- Numerous species of insects including butterflies, bees and ladybirds
- Wide variety of wildflowers.
There will also be the chance to see areas of the Fort which bats use for hibernation.
We have five pairs of children’s binoculars which can be loaned out during the walk but if you have your own please feel free to bring them along.
This is a free event but donations at the end of the walk would be gratefully appreciated. A book covering the full in-depth history of Fort Burgoyne will also be available to purchase at £5 each (cash only please!)
NB: More in-depth history tours of Fort Burgoyne will be available during the summer and listed on our Eventbrite. Please subscribe to White Cliffs Countryside Partnership’s Eventbrite page to receive notifications.
Due to the uneven ground and inclines around the Fort, the site is not suited for people who use wheelchairs or with limited mobility.
Meeting point: Fort Burgoyne, Dover Rd, Guston, Dover, CT15 5FN (this is a new postcode so may not be recognised on some map services).
What3Words reference: ///guard.suffice.broken.
We will open the gates into Fort Burgoyne at 9:45am so that there is enough time for everyone to arrive before our 10am starting time. Please do not arrive before 9:45am as there is no where safe to wait on the road. If you are running late please ring or text us to let us know.
Parking: Free parking available inside Fort Burgoyne.
Children must be accompanied at all times.
