Wilful Neglect Session

This training is aimed at any practitioners e.g. ASCH, Health, Emergency Services, Voluntary Sector working with people who may be at risk of abuse and neglect including the Team Managers / Line Managers of those staff

Aims of the training

• Understand the indicators of wilful neglect and potential preventative measures which could be taken to protect the adult at risk and keep them safe

• Understand and raise awareness how section 44 MCA prioritises people’s safety by making wilful neglect against an adult with care and support needs a criminal offence

• Understand recent changes in legislation and how this can be applied in cases of wilful neglect.

• Understanding partnership working regarding wilful neglect, and how this can be used to safeguard and support people to exercise control of their independence.

• Explore appropriate pathways for accessing support when wilful neglect is a concern

Objectives of the training

• Recognise the actions that should be taken to protect adults at risk experiencing wilful neglect

• Understand the principles of information sharing , mental capacity and person-centred approaches in relation to safeguarding adults who are experiencing wilful neglect

• Demonstrate the roles and responsibilities of all agencies involved in making effective referrals regarding wilful neglect

• Recognise how partnership working between agencies should facilitate effective processes to bring perpetrators of wilful neglect to justice
