Event description

Description

This art workshop is inspired by ‘Inspirational Journeys’, an exhibition of works by Wilhelmina Barns-Graham on display in the Granary Gallery, Berwick from 26th Oct 2019to 23rd Feb 2020 (Weds-Sun 11 -4.00pm entry free). The workshop will be led by local artist Gill Walton. We will start the workshop with a 30 minute tour of the exhibition led by Prof Maria Chester,

Using the power of line to concentrate and clear the mind, this workshop looks at the way Wilhelmina Barns-Graham used lines as a form of focussed concentration and meditative spirituality. These paintings and drawings are also beautiful works in their own right. We will also briefly look at Paul Klee, Richard Long and Mazda walking lines before you create your own contemplative masterpieces.

After a brief look at the way other artists have used line by Gill you will be led into a series of exercises that will both unlock your creativity and put you into a more peaceful state of mind. After lunch you will use the Barns-Graham masterpieces in the gallery and the mornings experience to make an abstract (or semi abstract) art work. This will be a very tranquil and peaceful day and you will have the added bonus of a beautiful artwork to take home with you.

There will be a 30 minute break for lunch and you can bring a packed lunch or eat in the Granary Café.

Materials

You will need fine line pens or ink and dipping pens. Watercolour paper (preferably smooth) or very thick cartridge paper and coloured ink or watercolour paints and brushes. Easels are provided.

The cost of the workshop is £30. There is a maximum of 10 places so early booking is recommended.
