Event description

Description

Epping Forest poet-in-residence Will Burns will read from a series of new works inspired by The People’s Forest.

Plus, Willowherb Journal will select successful writers of colour to share their new work at this one off event at Leytonstone library.

Drawing on a lifelong interest in the natural world, and in particular the contested ground around London and the home counties, Will’s work in Epping Forest will focus on ideas concerned with people’s access to spaces, our relationship to woods and forests, our interactions with the non-human and how the culture and history of woodlands might exert its own pressures on our understanding of the environment in a period of crisis.

Alongside Will’s poetry writers from Willowherb Journal will create a platform for emerging writers of colour to explore nature and the environment bringing the forest in all its seasons and glory come to life on the page

Will Burns/Willowherb is part of The People's Forest season - a series of events commissioned by London Borough of Culture 2019 which explores our relationship with Epping Forest, interrogating the deep bond we have with forests and woodland, and how this relationship is culturally determined.
