About this event
Do you wear clothes? Then this event is for you!
Join us on 7th October at 4pm for a citizen challenge: a chance to get inspired and have your say to help solve climate change through re-imagining fashion and textiles. This is a joint event between Circular Brighton and Hove, RubyMoon and University of Sussex Business School.
Take part in this interactive event to:
- HELP SET NEW POLICY FOR CREATING SYSTEM CHANGE
- SUGGEST HOW WE INCENTIVISE & DRIVE CHANGE BEFORE 2030
- HAVE YOUR SAY & INFLUENCE GLOBAL POLICY AT COP26
Did you know that 10% of all global carbon emissions are attributed to fashion and textiles? At this pace, the fashion industry will account for ¼of all global emissions by 2050. Will fashion be the industry that burns our house down?
Together, how can we incentivise the change to ensure that we do not ‘Shop ‘Til We Drop’ and produce action not words.
What is Cop26?
On 31st October-12th November2021, The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). This is a monumental opportunity to have an impact on preventing devastating climate change, and many see this conference as our last chance to do so. Covid-19 has shown that governments can step up and act quickly. If governments can put this same energy into climate change, which is a threat to all humanity, we can prevent the catastrophic global effects it will have.
This online event will allow citizens to communally write a letter to all attendees of COP26 to encourage them to make the right decisions on time.WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? The fashion and textiles industry is destroying biodiversity, creating pollution and putting workers in the supply chain in extreme danger and poverty. So far, no world leaders have committed to ‘levelling the playing field’ for businesses and individuals who are practicing circular economy; who can produce 500,000 meaningful jobs in the UK alone.
