Event description

Description

Dr Mark Green, Department of Geography and Planning, University of Liverpool

A clinician’s primary responsibility is treating ill health and disease. But what about preventing these events from ever occurring? Preventing disease requires drilling into the processes and determinants that may cause certain individuals to become sick at a particular time. It requires thinking beyond just the biological or genetic, towards the circumstances in which we live our lives. This lecture will zig-zag through history exploring the evidence both for and against whether geography matters for your health. It will cover topics such as the spread of cholera in Victorian London, whether living close to a fast food outlet will make you obese, and most importantly whether being a Northerner is bad for your health.
