Event description
A circular walk around the west side of Willen Lake starting at Robert Hooke’s Church of St Mary Magdalene

About this Event

A circular walk led by former Milton Keynes Development Corporation architect Pete Martin, taking in two of the top architectural treasures of Milton Keynes – Robert Hooke’s wonderful Church of St Mary Magdalene (a rare essay into architecture by the Stuart polymath) – and the first Peace Pagoda in the western world, the presence of which in the city is due to architect and planner, Tom Hancock, who also advised on the design (undertaken by Minoru Okha). We will visit the nearby Buddhist sangha (also designed by Okha) with its Zen garden of chunky gravel, before returning via some of the modern architecture in the gridsquare.

The landscape of North Willen Park was recently included in the book “100 20th Century Gardens and Landscapes” written by the Twentieth Century Society.
