Event description

Description

On 26 & 27 August, East London Dance presents the UK premiere of Stratford Living, a photographic exhibition of unique human sculpture developed by the internationally-renowned Austrian choreographer, Willi Dorner (bodies in urban spaces) and photographer Lisa Rastl.

If you wish to book for 26 August please click here.

Audiences will walk through Stratford and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park visiting homes to see photographs of Dorner’s human sculptures displayed in the very rooms in which they have been created.

Created in homes and spaces around Stratford, working with seven professional dancers and photographed by his long-time collaborator Lisa Rastl, this exhibition of Willi Dorner’s Stratford Living project will be a unique experience. By transforming homes into public exhibition spaces, Dorner challenges the boundary between public and private worlds, giving audiences a glimpse of the changes that are occurring across the borough, whilst offering a creative exploration of urbanisation and living environments in east London today.

“Living in urban spaces is our future. Our cities will get crowded in the next decades and we urgently need to discuss how we can live together” Willi Dorner

Early bird tickets for this one-off walking exhibition experience are just £5.

  • Some homes are only accessible by stairs. If you have any access needs please get in touch with us before booking on 020 8279 1050.
  • Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult in each home.
  • The tour is expected to last about 1.5 hours including walking from home to home.
  • The starting point of the tour will be confirmed by email at least a week before the date of the exhibition.
  • The tour is self-led but a map will be provided with details of how to find each home on the exhibition trail.
  • Tours will start every 10 minutes between 12noon and 3pm on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August. You will need to book for a specific time slot. Please arrive 10 minutes before your allocated start time to allow for walking tour instructions and directions to be given.
  • All homes will close to ticket holders at 4:30pm each day.
  • Please note tickets are non-refundable.

Created especially for Stratford, this is the first time Dorner’s eye-opening living room project has been mounted in the UK. Dorner’s work was memorably seen in London in 2009 as part of Dance Umbrella, when his globe-trotting human sculptures project, bodies in urban spaces was mounted across the city – from Tower Bridge to City Hall.

Willi Dorner creates events that give the audience the opportunity for new experiences, insights and a different perception of everyday life. His work has been invited to several international festivals including: Wiener Festwochen, Wien Modern (Austria), Musica Strasbourg, Biennale de Danse du Val- de-Marne, Festival de Marseille (France), FTA – Festival TransAmériques Montreal (Canada), Dance Umbrella London (UK), Springdance Utrecht (NL), Tanz im August Berlin, Theater der Welt Essen (Germany), Crossing the Lines New York (USA) and b:om Festival (South Korea).
