William Howard presents an evening of piano music which includes some sparkling Mendelssohn, Schubert’s much loved Impromptus Op.90, and Chopin’s late masterpiece, the Sonata in B minor, which contains some of his most dramatic and most beautiful music. Between these romantic works will be the world premiere of three new piano love songs, composed for William Howard’s imaginative Love Songs Project by Master of the Queen’s Music, Judith Weir, Howard Skempton and Bernard Hughes. The programme will also feature the two winning pieces of William Howard's Love Song Composing Competition.

William Howard,described in The Independent as “a pianist of quite special lustrousness and versatility”, is established as one of Britain’s leading pianists, enjoying a career that has taken him to over 40 different countries. William performs regularly at major venues and festivals in the UK and can be heard frequently on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. He has made over forty CD recordings and premiered several dozen new works by leading composers from the UK and abroad. His highly acclaimed album of Sixteen Love Songs for solo piano was released by Orchid Classics in June 2016 and was the start of a wider project to commission sixteen new piano love songs, which are being premiered throughout summer 2017 at various venues, including Hoxton Hall, London (26 April) and the Cheltenham Festival (9 July). Last year he also set up an international Love Song Composing Competition, which attracted over 500 entries from 61 countries.
