Event Details

Marina Warner will deliver the 2015 William Matthews Lecture entitled

Translumination or travesty?: The Passage into English

This lecture will start at 6pm followed by a drinks reception

Marina Warner spent the last two years reading novels from all over the world for the Man Booker International Prize, which is given for a significant body of fiction by a living writer, as long as it is in English or in translation into English.

In relation to some of the writers who emerged, she will discuss the character of global fiction, the difficulties of making decisions, and questions raised by the domination of English as a world language.
