Willow Foraging Basket
Overview
Join us for a day-long basketry workshop to connect with fellow crafting enthusiasts and immerse yourself in the engaging world of basketry, where you will make your own willow foraging basket from scratch. Set in the warm, inviting space of The Workshop in Whitley Bay, this hands-on experience begins with creating a sturdy hoop frame as the foundation for your basket. You’ll learn the art of weaving with flexible willow rods, transforming simple materials into a beautiful and functional piece of art.
This workshop is suitable for a beginner and more advanced.
As a beginner you will have expert guidance and clear instructions to take you through the technical weaves to create this wonderful basket in a day.
Intermediates/advanced weavers get the opportunity to practice and hone their techniqes and style and have the on-hand help to discuss techniques with experienced weavers.
The Workshop promises to unlock your creativity and leave you with a stunning finished foraging basket to take to the hedgrows or your allotment and fill with your bounty.
All materials, tools and refreshments are provided but please bring something for lunch.
If you have a favourite pair of secatuers, please do bring them.
It is advised to wear closed toe shoes.
Due to a traditional willow-working technique used to make the material more supple, running the willow over your knee, we recommend wearing clothing that covers your knees. An apron is ideal to protect your clothes during the weaving process.
