About this event

Spend a creative day learning the heritage craft of willow basketry as you weave your very own willow shoulder bag, complete with a comfortable leather strap—perfect for everyday use or seasonal foraging adventures.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll be guided through each step to create a beautiful and functional basket with timeless style and practical design.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to weave a Catalan square base, a traditional and sturdy basket base technique
  • How to work an English spiral rand weave to form the sides, giving a lovely flowing pattern
  • How to attach a leather shoulder strap, making your bag both strong and comfortable to carry

Whether you’re new to willow weaving or looking to expand your skills, this workshop offers a supportive, inspiring environment to get stuck in and create something truly unique.

What’s Included:

  • All tools and materials, including willow and a quality leather strap
  • Step-by-step instruction from an experienced tutor
  • Tea and coffee throughout the day (please bring a packed lunch)

By the end of the day, you'll leave with a beautiful, handwoven shoulder bag and the skills to continue your basketry journey.

No prior experience is necessary. Suitable for ages 14+ (under 16s must be accompanied by a participating adult). Please note that whilst this class is beginner friendly, willow weaving does require some finger strength and dexterity.
