Description

Fit for the Future is providing members with the opportunity to attend a behind the scenes tour of the recently installed ground source heat pumps at National Trust Wimpole.

Fit for the Future is providing members with the opportunity to attend a behind the scenes tour of the recently installed ground source heat pumps at National Trust Wimpole.

The installation of ground source heat pumps at Wimpole is part of the National Trust's Renewable Energy Investment Programme, providing significant environmental benefits.

The new heat pumps use around one third of the energy used by the previous oil boilers, reducing carbon emissions by 47 tonnes per year and saving over £8,000 a year in fuel costs. Wimpole Hall and the Old Rectory restaurant used to consume approximately 35,000 litres of oil each year. Switching to a ground source heat pump system removes the requirement for this oil and thus removes the risk of an environmentally damaging oil leak.

Beyond energy savings there are practical advantages to this energy source switch with the low temperature background heat provided by heat pumps being better suited for sensitive collections at properties like Wimpole than the fluctuating high temperature heat from a fossil fuel boiler.

The presentation and tour will be led by Dee Nun National Trust Project Manager, who leads the deployment of renewable energy projects at National Trust properties across the East of England region and managed the Wimpole project from feasibility to handover as well as the installation of an open loop water source heat pump system at Anglesey Abbey and a number of air source heat pump projects.

The session will give an overview of Dee’s experiences from heat pump projects and share lessons learnt and top tips for delivering similar projects; an ideal opportunity for:

· Members considering a renewable heating system and wanting some further information on the pros and cons of ground, water and air source heat pumps

· Members in the process of installing ground source heat pumps – find out exactly what you need to know and the practicalities of installation and handover

Please email pollyanna.champness@nationaltrust.org.uk if you would like to attend.
