Description

Why not join a Guided Walk around Preston’s only Georgian Square with a Friend of Winckley Square Tour Guide. Hear what Preston was like when it was a gentrified town where the rich and famous chose to have their country homes. Learn about the famous and the infamous past residents of Winckley Square including William Cross, who died before his vision of a Georgian Square in the middle of Preston was complete, of Nicolas Grimshaw, who built the second house, was seven times Mayor of Preston, the only mayor to hold the office during two guild years. Find out why the name of Mayor Thomas Monk was removed from the Robert Peel Statue and about the young boy and woman who died in Nathaniel Miller’s dentist chair – the man who was responsible for the building of the Miller Arcade. …... and much more.

The walk starts at 2pm in the centre of the Gardens Wednesday 5th June & Sunday 9th June 2019 (lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes)

What reviewers have said about the Guided Walks:
