Windows on Tea: Live Chadō Demonstrations by Tankokai UK
Event Information
About this event
Join us at Japan House London to learn about the Way of Tea in a series of special demonstrations by Tankokai UK.
Chadō, the Japanese Way of Tea, is a Japanese tradition with more than 400 years of history with many practitioners not only in Japan, but all over the world. Usually practised in a teahouse, or chashitsu, the act of preparing and serving tea to guests is a way to socialize while also paying attention to the gestures and the surrounding environment, the craft objects involved and the architectural space itself.
In conjunction with the exhibition ‘Windowology: New Architectural Views from Japan’, Japan House London is delighted to collaborate with Tankokai UK, an association of chadō practitioners connected to Urasenke (one of the largest tea schools in Japan) to offer visitors an opportunity to experience first-hand the values and significance of the Way of Tea in everyday life.
During the event there is also the possibility to ask questions to the speakers.
Japan House London is a COVID-secure venue. Please visit our COVID-19 webpage for more information about the measures we have implemented to ensure your safety.
