Our Round table events

An initiative launched by WINN, that are being delivered in partnership with Worcester Business Central and The HIVE.

The aim of the round table is three-fold:

  • Focus on a specific sector e.g. Agri-tech, Advanced manufacturing and Cyber / IT to identify new areas of growth;
  • Promote large organisations working in the specified sector to showcase their capabilities;
  • Connect local businesses working in the specified sector with other organisations to realise their shared growth goals.

On the 30 Jan in the Glass Room at The Hive, Worcester 11am-14:30pm, we will be focussing on Agri-tech.

Agenda:

  • 11am – Key players from the Agri-tech sector:
  • 13.00pm – Open Discussion – Businesses can explain what they do and what facilities and resources they would find useful to achieve their growth plans
  • 14.30pm – Close.

Dr Rhian Hayward MBE, CEO, Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus (AIEC)

In January 2017, Dr Rhian Hayward was appointed CEO for the newly formed joint venture between Aberystwyth University and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, which has been created to build and operate the proposed Innovation and Enterprise Campus (AIEC) on the outskirts of Aberystwyth.

Rhian takes up the CEO role following her recent post as Head of Knowledge Exchange at the Department of Research, Business & Innovation at Aberystwyth University.

Prior to joining Aberystwyth University, Dr Hayward worked in the private sector running a consultancy business advising investors, universities and SMEs on the commercialisation of early stage life science technologies.

The vison for Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus is to create a world leading facility for bio-science research, developing ground breaking products for the agri-tech market.

“The campus will provide a world class capability in Wales for the development of new products and services for the whole life sciences community. I look forward to supporting entrepreneurs, start up companies, and industry partners with scale up projects, to access facilities and expertise of a unique quality, scale and variety.”

Dr John Collins, Commercial Director, SynbiCITE

John has had a diverse and fascinating work life which has included becoming a trained Chef and working at restaurants in order to put himself through university, studying Nuclear Physics and Microelectronics for his PhD as part of a CASE Award for the nuclear power industry and continuing as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate for British Gas plc at King’s College London developing the sensor for a gas smart meter.

John will explain how their UK national centre is supporting the commercialisation of synthetic biology across a multitude of sectors.

Fraser Black, Head of Policy and Communications, Crop Health And Protection (CHAP)

Fraser has over 30 years’ commercial experience (sales, marketing, and business and market development) in the Bioscience industry. He has a passion for both the development and adoption of innovation to drive health and wealth and is absolutely committed to the driving principle behind CHAP, which is that science, technological and process innovation is the key to raising crop productivity through transforming our approach to the management of weeds, pests, diseases, water and soil.

Fraser will explain how CHAP is aiming to revolutionise how farmers manage crop threats including pests and disease, both in the UK and overseas.

Aurélie Bovi, Knowledge Exchange Manager, Agrimetrics

Aurélie has over seven years’ experience working at the interface between the different stakeholders involved in the Bioeconomy, including the Agri-Food and Agri-Tech sectors, from regional SMEs to multinationals to academic and Governmental organisations.

In her current role, she endeavours to help stakeholders understand the opportunities brought to them by Agrimetrics, and aims to assist businesses along the supply chain achieve their sustainable goals and undertake innovative approaches involving the use of Big Data.

Dr Bovi previously worked for the Biorenewables Development Centre (BDC), York, where she furthered her understanding of the different sectors linked in the Bioeconomy. At the Biosciences KTN she was closely involved with projects related to the Agri-Food sectors as well as synthetic biology, including delivery of a set of recommendations, included in the UK Agri-Tech Strategy paper published in 2013.

Aurélie will explain how their world's first Big Data Centre of Excellence is supporting the Agri-food industry.
