Event description
Improve your winter bird ID skills on this two day course for both beginners & improvers. (Day 1 Online 6pm - 8pm & Day 2 at Folly Farm)

About this event

Winter sees huge influxes of challenging to identify birds like ducks, geese and waders, and is therefore a fantastic time to improve your bird ID skills. This hybrid course, suitable for both beginners and improvers, aims to teach you tips and tricks for getting on top of identifying these tricky birds. Following a taught online session, you’ll then be able to choose from two time slots (Morning or Afternoon) to put your new ID skills into practice at our outdoor practical session, birding at Chew Valley Lake - one of Avon’s best winter birding site - with special access to private hides.

Learning outcomes:

• A general introduction to winter birds including behaviour

• Learn & practice techniques to identify common winter birds focusing on winter waders and some waterfowl

• Discover where to go see birds in winter in Avon

• Practice your new skills at one of our practical sessions at Chew Valley Lake

When purchasing tickets, you will have two options for which practical session you would like to take part in:

The morning practical session on Tuesday 14th December will take place 9.30am - 12.30pm. The afternoon practical session on Tuesday 14th December will take place 1pm - 4pm.
