How accessible are these events?

Royal Observatory Edinburgh is a historic site with limited accessibility. The site is very steep and may present challenges to those with limited mobility and the final part of the tour can only be reached by stairs. Please email us on RoyalObsEdin@stfc.ac.uk if you want to discuss further.

Can I bring children to these events?

Children over 5 are welcome at these events, those younger than this are likely to find them challenging. All of our events have a broad audience so parents and guardians should be aware that adults will also be there. We generally encourage those with younger children to attend the earlier session.

Can I look through the old telescope?

Unfortunately it is not possible to look through the old telescope in the Victorian telescope dome.

Can I look through a different telescope?

When there are clear skies we will do some naked eye observing from the rooftop and occasionally we will set up binoculars to look at something in more detail. Unfortunately (because it's Scotland), it's often too cloudy to see any stars or planets.
