Why this ritual exists
This year has been full. Fast. Loud. Demanding.
Many of us moved straight from the energy of summer into the swirl of autumn — and never truly landed. Now our bodies are asking for something softer.
Not more pushing.
Not more fixing.
Just a moment to pause… and remember ourselves.
The Winter Solstice marks the turning of the year, a natural moment to slow down, reflect, and gently reset before the festive season begins.
This ritual creates the conditions for that pause, so you don’t have to create it yourself.

How do you want to get there?
Arrival + Orange & Clove Pomander Ritual
We’ll begin gently, taking time to arrive and settle into the space. Our opening ritual is a simple orange and clove pomander — made in the same way many of us learnt in primary school. This is a slow, mindful activity designed to ground you in the present moment while softly reconnecting you to feelings of warmth, safety, and childhood magic. As your hands work, your nervous system begins to settle. There’s no rush, no right or wrong way — just a gentle invitation to land in your body, the space, and the season. This ritual helps anchor us into Winter Solstice energy: calm, cosy, reflective, and quietly magical. Sharing is optional. You’re welcome to sit quietly and take this time just for yourself.
Yin/Yang Yoga
Next, we’ll move into a gently held Yin and Yang yoga practice with Caroline Cherrington. Caroline was the perfect choice to guide this part of the ritual. I’ve been practising yoga with her for several years, and her teaching beautifully blends both Yin and Yang styles in a way that feels supportive, grounding, and accessible. We’ll begin with Yang yoga, a little more active and warming, helping the body to release built-up tension and settle into movement. From there, we’ll slowly transition into Yin yoga, with longer-held, restful poses that invite softness, surrender, and deep release. This practice is designed to mirror the energy of Winter Solstice: moving from doing into being, from effort into ease. All levels are welcome. You’re always encouraged to listen to your body and rest whenever you need.
Cacao Ritual & Guided Meditation
This is not a traditional or formal cacao ceremony. While I’ve not received training around ceremonial cacao, what we’ll share here is something much simpler and more personal. I love cacao for how grounding, warming, and heart-softening it feels, and over time, I’ve created a gentle ritual that helps people slow down and arrive fully in the moment. We’ll each have a mug of warm cacao, and I’ll guide you through a calm, accessible meditation to help anchor you into the here and now. The cacao acts as a sensory support — its warmth and taste helping the body and mind settle more easily. Cacao is often associated with feelings of openness, clarity, creativity, and gentle focus, without being overstimulating. Many people find it supportive for reflection and intention-setting. There’s nothing to do and nowhere to go. You’re simply invited to sit, sip, breathe, and be.
