The session will feature a guided tour of the reserve taking in a few parts that are not generally open to the public.

We will explore parts of the woodland between the visitor centre and Joe’s Pond – looking for wildlife including fungi, invertebrates and amphibians, before making our way to Joe’s Pond to see the wildfowl and water-life there.

We will continue around Nicholson Hill, thinking about the inter-relationships between the site's plants and animals – and factoring the seasons and recent weather patterns against what we see.

We will end up at the main bird hide at Pond 2, which has seen a range of birding successes this summer, including first time avocets, common tern and little ringer plover, alongside the grebes, wildlfowl, cormorants and gulls.

This event is being held at Rainton Meadows, which has plenty of parking and a visitor centre with toilets, cafe and gift shop.

Please wear weather-appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. Wellingtons are not necessary.

This event is suitable for people of all ages, however attendees under 18 will need to be with a supervising adult.
