A Winter Warmer! 26-28th November

This tutored retreat is for women who want to find a quiet, gentle place to boost their writing craft. Bristol based literature organisation Satellite of Love and Wordsmiths Writers are organising A Winter Warmer! at the Kingcombe Centre, Dorset 26-28th November 2021.

During the pandemic women often found it difficult to put their writing first. Work, family and other commitments took up so much energy.  Poet Helen Sheppard and Creative Writing Tutor Lucy English will help you to now focus on your creative talent. Quiet time, tutorials, exercises, friendly gatherings and plenty of space. You will come away feeling supported, inspired and excited with your writing.

A Winter Warmer! is suitable for all types of writers. We have fifteen spaces. 

The retreat will take place at the beautiful Kingcombe Centre in Dorset, a gorgeous 450 acre wildlife reserve.

The cost is £395 to include two nights accommodation, single en-suite accommodation and delicious home cooked meals!

The retreat will run from 4pm Friday 26th November to 2pm Sunday 28th November.

Accommodation - Comfortable accommodation in a beautiful lodge right next to the centre with all en-suite rooms except one with private bathroom. All linen is included together with a communal kitchenette with tea and coffee making facilities and lounge area. Plenty of peaceful places to write, walk and relax.

Catering:

Day 1 :tea/coffee/cake on arrival, 3 course evening dinner Day 2: Breakfast, 2 course lunch, pm tea/ cake, 3 course evening dinner. Day 3: Breakfast, 2 course lunch , pm tea /cake We can cater for all dietary requirements.

Your tutors are Lucy English and Helen Sheppard.

Lucy English is a Professor in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University. She is a spoken word poet and novelist. Lucy's current project is The Book of Hours, a digital 'book' which contains 48 poetry films created with 27 filmmakers from Europe, America and Australia. Films from this project have been screened at many international short film festivals. Lucy has four novels published by Fourth Estate and two collections of poetry published by Burning Eye. Lucy is co-director of Lyra Bristol Poetry Festival.

Helen Sheppard is a midwife who writes poems about birth, health, family and loss. She co-runs Satellite of Love Spoken Word events. Her first poetry collection 'Fontanelle' is published by Burning Eye Books (2021). Helen's poetry is in many anthologies including: Under the Radar, These are the Hands NHS, Hecate Magazine. Commended in Hippocrates Prize (2017). Readings include: Milk, Raise the Bar, Torriano Meeting House, Harvard Medical School, Nuyorican Poets Cafe NYC. Helen's podcast - Health Beat Poets.
