About this Event

Winter Woodland Bird ID Walk in Leigh Woods

Sunday 17th January 2021 (8.30am - 10.30am)

Join Ed Drewitt for 2 hours of exploring Leigh Woods and learning how to identify some of our common winter woodland birds. As the days begin to get longer, the turn of the new year is a signal to woodland birds to increase their singing, attract a mate and set up nesting territories in advance of spring. We will be listening for and identifying a variety of birds such as wren, robin and song thrush, as they prepare for those warmer spring days. Others will still be very much in winter mode with roving flocks of small birds comprising blue tits, great tits, nuthatches, treecreepers and goldcrest moving through the woodlands looking for food; winter thrush visitors such as redwings and fieldfares may also be feeding on berry bushes or flying overhead while blackbirds rustle through the leaves.

We will enjoy a hot drink at the end of our session during questions for Ed, at our Green Barn.

Wear appropriate clothing for the time of year; boots and warm, waterproof clothing.

Please note this event is weather-dependent and for safety reasons we will not be able to continue in very heavy rain or high winds.

Ed's walk will be accompanied by My Green World's experienced outdoors tutors who are DBS checked and First Aid qualified.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Enter Leigh Woods at the Forestry England sign on the Abbots Leigh Road (A369), almost directly opposite Clifton College Sports Complex.  There is plenty of parking in the Forestry England car park at the bottom of the long, humped drive.  Forestry England charge £2.00 to park in the car park. Meet your My Green World tutor by the sign boards, at the beginning of the red and purple trails in the car park.
