Winton Women Trailblazers in Mathematics Conference - Day 1
Wed 29 March 2017, 09:45 – 15:30 BST
Could your talented female students become the maths stars of tomorrow?
Birkbeck, University of London, invites you and your female students to the: ‘Winton Women Trailblazers in Mathematics’ conference
At this event your students will spend the day learning fun new mathematics, finding out about some heroines of mathematics, and meeting a few of today’s women trailblazers using maths in their careers.
What will the day look like?
The day will incorporate sessions led by women using mathematics in their careers, from academic mathematicians proving new theorems to women using mathematics in fields such as engineering and statistics.
There will be breakout sessions throughout the day with a chance to try fun puzzles and solve mathematical challenges, and there will also be an opportunity to learn about what studying maths at university is like.
Students are also invited to enter our competition where they'll have the chance to win £150 Amazon vouchers and two £50 prizes for the runners up! To enter they will need to prepare an A3-size poster about a woman trailblazer of mathematics who has inspired them (alternatively this could be a group, such as the women codebreakers of World War II). The best posters will be on display at the conference, and judging will take place on the day.
You will be sent more detail on this when you register.
