Wise Food Traditions

An introduction to the dietary principles of the Weston A. Price Foundation: the benefits of ancestral diets and nutrient-dense foods; and the vital role of our local organic and biodynamic farmers and local food artisans in supporting our best health and wellbeing! Presented by Hilda Labrada Gore (Holistic Hilda), Integrative Health Coach and Ancestral Health Advocate, Host & Producer of the "Wise Traditions" Podcast for the Weston A. Price Foundation, and Chapter Leader for the Weston A. Price Foundation in Washington D.C.

The Weston A. Price Foundation is founded on the belief that "good health today can be found by exploring the wisdom of the past in food, farming and the healing arts". The foundation was named in honour of Dr Weston A. Price DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery), researcher and explorer who, in the 1930s, travelled to isolated villages and indigenous communities around the world (including Australia) to examine the effects of diet and nutrition on health and wellbeing. As a Dentist, Dr Price believed the mouth was a window to the body, and dental health was indicative of whole body health. Dr Price found that those communities that consumed traditional, ancestral diets had marvellous dental health, were physically robust, and optimistic in outlook, whereas those who consumed "the displacing foods of modern commerce" (refined, devitalised processed flours, sugars and oils) were plagued with poor mental and physical health, crowded, cavity-ridden teeth and compromised facial structure. Dr Price's remarkable observations were captured by a collection of photographs and detailed written commentary published in "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration". This seminal work (originally published in 1939) is of even greater relevance today given the prevalence of chronic health conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and mental health conditions.

Hilda Labrada Gore is re-tracing the footsteps of Dr Price in a month-long tour of Australia in September 2019. This event on the Atherton Tablelands represents the last in a series of public appearances by Hilda in Australia where she will discuss the dietary principles of the Weston A. Price Foundation and how honouring ancestral diets and consuming nutrient-dense foods, can help alleviate the burden of chronic disease in Australia. Don't miss this opportunity to meet Hilda Labrada Gore in her final appearance in Australia before returning to the USA.
