Event description

Description

Women in the Law UK members only are invited to a night at the theatre as part of our Headspace series of events. A chance to have a break from work and enjoy the arts. If you enjoyed the Q and A event with Maxine Peake and Sarah Frankcom in October 2017, then join us at this theatre event. This is a pre theatre drinks in the rivals bar.

Following the success of A Streetcar Named Desire, The Skriker and Hamlet, Royal Exchange Artistic Director Sarah Frankcom and Associate Artist Maxine Peake continue their creative collaboration with Samuel Beckett’s surreal masterpiece, HAPPY DAYS.

“THE DAYS GO BY, CERTAIN DAYS, GO QUITE BY, THE BELL GOES, AND LITTLE OR NOTHING SAID, LITTLE OR NOTHING DONE. THAT IS THE DANGER. TO BE GUARDED AGAINST.”

Winnie is stuck. Buried in a wilderness of scorched earth she survives the everyday with fragments of babbling optimism. But she has her armoury, the lipstick, the mirror and the bag.
From his cave her husband Willie hides in the shadows, as they both await the inevitable bell to ring in another happy day.
