The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games were the most connected Olympics ever, by any measure: network traffic of all types was higher than for previous Games; the networks were larger and more sophisticated; and the amount of real-time social media activity was unprecedented. According to the IET, www.London2012.com was one of the most visited sports websites in the world with 431 million visits, 109 million unique users, 15 million app downloads and 4.73 billion page views. An estimated 4 billion spectators viewed the Games worldwide. And for peak times, the communications network was scaled for 60 gigabits of information a second, between 80,000 connections, across 94 locations.
The September 2013 meeting of Women in Telecoms & Technology will look back at the technology systems, services and infrastructure, and the massive planning challenge, that went into delivering the London 2012 Games. Our speakers will also discuss plans for future use of these networks and facilities, as the Olympic Park is transformed into a digital hub within Tech City.
Our panelists will include:
- Freya Guinness, Director, Operational Transformation, Ofcom;
- Siena Pakington, Head of Business Development, BBC;
- Stuart Sutton, Chief Executive Officer, Infinity SDC Limited; and
- Michael Cole, Marketing Director, Sport and Legacy Development. BT Global Services
The evening will run as follows:
6:00-7:00 pm: Welcome reception and networking
7:00-8:15 pm: Remarks by panelists, then discussion and Q&A
8:15 pm: Wrap up and further networking
(The meeting will take place at The View Tube, which offers an excellent view of the Park and the ArcelorMittal Orbit. The View Tube is steps away from Pudding Mill Lane DLR station, which is 15-20 minutes from Bank Tube station.)
We look forward to seeing you on September 23rd!
